Thornies are my spiky beeswax sculpture-candles. The main body of the candle is roughly the same size as the classic tapers, with added “thorns” worked in during the hand-dip process. Each one is different and requires care and attention to make, and they are imbued with so much feeling! See above for the inspiration, especially channeling hawthorn, ocotillo and rose, our prickly plant relatives who can help us care for our tender hearts. As always, made with regional, indigenous-tended beeswax from our friends at the Ioway Bee Farm.
NOTE: DO NOT BURN UNATTENDED! Good practice with ALL candles, but be prepared thar the “thorns” tend to fall off during the burning process. These can be saved for salve-making or other uses, but also make sweet offerings on the altar or to the plant community when we harvest. Listing is for ONE sculpture, chosen at random.
